Make Money Blogging Community Training - Part 2

Posted by: Ben Pei on 16 October 2008 - 1,009 views

I am glad my first installation of this make money blogging training have received a good number of comments and feedback. Just keep them coming! I hope some of you guys have gained much from using Twitter.

Succeeding With

Today, I will be sharing my second installation of this make money blogging series, “Succeeding With Technorati”. I believe most bloggers out there know what Technorati is but how many of them are putting it to good use? For the benefit of those who do not know what Technorati is, Technorati is a blog directory where you can submit your blog amongst others and get maximum exposure from the community.

You can submit your blog to Technorati at: http://www.technorati.com Remember to claim it thereafter!

So much about submitting your blog, even a first grader can do it. Here comes the beef of this topic, how can Technorati help in branding and driving traffic to your blog? Warning: Its gonna be another lengthy post.

1. Technorati Authority - Each link from a unique blog will increase your authority by one, meaning you can only get one authority from each blog no matter how many links they throw to you. There are several ways that you can use to build up your authority. Something which I am also working on right now! The higher your authority, the higher your blog is ranked on Technorati. My blog has climbed more than 5,000,000 positions over the past 2 weeks and I thought it would be nice to share what I have been doing.

As cheesey as this can get, you may use the same technique as you are using to build backlinks for SEO. It has the same effect on getting authority for Technorati.

Become the Top Commentator. This is one of the less known trick to most people I believe. When you become the top commentator, you will get a backlink from the blog automatically and it is recognised by Technorati. I reward my readers with dofollow links for Top Commentators so feel free to leave comments and see if you can hit the top position. Constructive comments that is.

2. Using Technorati tags - Getting into more categories in Technorati and other blog search engines will get you more links from them, exposing you to other bloggers and webmasters that can link to you. To easily create Technorati tags, use this simple tool: Tag Generator. All you have to do is type in the keyword, and the tool will make the code for the tag.

3. Technorati Fave - Do you know that you are able to drive free targeted traffic by increasing your tech fave? It may be a daunting task to get into the list of Top 100 Linked Blogs but it is easier to get into the Top 100 Most Favourited Blogs. In actual fact, there are many people searching for blogs Technorati and the best way to get noticed is to be in the Top 100 list. Together with your authority that you have gained, more tech fave would give your blog a higher value in the blogosphere. This is prestiege that many sought after and it is also one of the valuating factor that advertisers look at it. Now, how do can you get so many faves in such a strong competing market? I have come up with a Technorati Fave Exchange Program and you may click the link below to participate. Its free, let’s just spread the community love.

Technorati Fave Exchange Program

I hope you will be able to participate actively in this exchange program. This is the best way to go about increasing your authority and tech fave in the shortest time possible. Some people might detest exchanges but I know most people love it. Unique content may be a good way to get you some fave and authority but it is going to be a long process. BUT, never stop sharing good content!

I will be building up a list of Technorati Fave Exchange blogs, so if you want to get your blog listed, please take note of the second pointer and just follow the instructions. I wish you success in building up your readership and traffic with Technorati and lets hit the Top 100 Most Favourited list together!

Hi Ben,

You’re right about how important Technorati authority is and I’m also working hard at it to improve my ratings. Getting just one point from one blog no matter how many
links you obtained and a 6-month validity period is a good methodology used hy Technorati. Gives us some pressure to be more serious too. BTW does the Technorati Tag generator work for WP 2.6 too? Because I was told it doesn’t work on this version.

I am not too sure about this actually. I believe they take your categories as tag for technorati. By the way Peter, not planning to participate in the 2nd one?

2008-10-16 22:39:17

Ben,
I still am not clear about that. I create my post in my blog and mention TFX and link to your post. When you noticed my post from trackback you will “include my post in this topic”… what do you mean by including my post in your topic. What topic and has anyone done this so that I can take a look. Sorry but your post isn’t very clear.

Hi Peter,

My apologies for the ambigious post on tech fave exchange. I have updated it and tried to be as clear as I could. Let me know if you still do not get it.

Hi Ben,

very well laid out, nice *plain English* speak. It should be noted that authority links are only counted for the past 6 months…so keep collecting links!

I also just realized first hand that blog contest (when having bloggers blog about it) is a great way to jump up in a short period…..and that’s not something theyu can take away after…such as when they unsubscribe :)

Let me know if you would like to guest post something sometime over at my place :-)

Sure thing Dennis!

I would be more than glad to be part of a guest blogger on your blog. When is a good time so I can write something for it?

Excellent! First please read the guest page. It simply shows the rules and perks; mostly common sense but a good read anyway…

Then contact me and we’ll go over the particulars…

I’ve done the Technorati fave thing with you and someone else thus far, and I hope it helps make my blog a bit more prominent. Right now, though, it’s finally reached the top 200,000, which makes me happy, but I need more, especially since it’s still not generating much revenue. But it’s getting better.

Yeah the Technorati ranking is one of the factors that advertisers look at as well. Gotta work hard to climb hard the ladder.. Including myself!

great tips ben .thanks for the infos.

Another good way of seeing your Technorati Authority increase is be a sponsor to a few blog contests. Whenever someone joins the contests and blogs about it listing all the sponsors’ blogs, your authority increases.

Ben,
Another way I found some success in getting more people to do Technorati Fav with you is through email. I usually put the Tech Fav link in the mail to make it too easy for them to refuse. I’ve now got about 31. Still a lousy no. but better than before.
