This very question has been bugging me and up to date I still can’t make a decision on which is better, and thats why I need precious opinions from you guys after reading this post!
I was at the cafe this afternoon and witnessed a manager in his late twenties ordering an older worker around so I started to ponder upon this question, “Is experience or talent more important?” Just like when you choose your food, does taste or look weigh more on your deciding factor? Since they both don’t exist together normally! I mean on normal circumstances, don’t beat me on this!
Now linking how you blog to how you choose your food, here are some of my thoughts.
1) Tasty food but doesn’t look as appealing in appearance. You would have noticed food attracts people first by its look and then by its taste and smell because thats just how our senses work. Now, food that looks really yummy would definitely attract a huge starting crowd but you probably start losing customer if it doesn’t taste good and people won’t return after the first time. Likewise, food that taste really good but doesn’t look as appealing takes a longer time attract its deserved crowd but they will definitely return for it because of the value it gives.
Now put it in terms of blogging, your content and your blog. Your food is now your daily input, marketing and valuable content while look is of cos the outlook of your blog. You decide, which is more important if you are looking for a long term business? Assuming its never easy for them to exist together…
2) Put yourself in your readers’ shoes. Just like how you choose your food, what makes your favourite snack so favourable to you? The color of the package? The sweetness? The chewiness? This is how you can discover something in your blogging niche that can help you improve your own blog. When you visit others’ blog, what is it that you like? What is that you wish you could have done also? Once you have picked that out, go ahead and do it right away! I am pretty sure you could at least reach the same level as your peers did. Believe in yourself, I did!
3) Too much junk is bad for your health. According to Dictionary.com, the definition of Junk goes like this, “anything that is regarded as worthless, meaningless, or contemptible; trash.” People tend to love junk food despite knowing that they are JUNK… Doh! Now that I have defined junk for you, you should know what they are and start removing them from your blog! More badges doesn’t make you more popular, they are NOT medallions. I know they look good and tasty, but you know its definitely not what it looks like…
Well, I had more ideas running in the noon but they kinda vanished at this moment since its almost bed time for me. Too bad I didn’t have a notepad with me at that time, my bad! So guys, what are your thoughts?

i agree with your first point. i was recently attending the fancy foods show in san francisco. there were beautifully packaged new products. too bad some of them were not worth the calories, once i tasted the product. bottom line…i will always try a new food once, particularly if the packaging/brand catches my eye. if it doesn’t meet my taste criteria, i will never buy it again.

Yeah the food, actually you got me hungry while I was reading this post
Anyway, do you know those fancy looking dishes and those really great decorated food that look like they would be 1million worth ? Well that’s what I see with many blogs. From the first look/smell they look great and worth the money, but when you start eating ( reading the blog), it turns out to be the same or even worse than the average cafe’s food. Then again there are some exceptions.
Cheers.

I think like a food , good visual impression is very important to attract the people but good and helpful content is major factor to keep people coming back.

I love the analogy and i especially agree with your comments about excessive junk! Personally I ensure that all my articles are unqiue and never ever use duplicate articles on my site or those from article directories as to be honest they will have been used in countless other places and offer very little value to my site or to my google ranking
