Making money with residual income opportunities is a premier way of increasing your overall online earning potential. Take a good look online and you will be amazed to find the cornucopia of programs currently inviting participants that offer as part of their remuneration scheme a well thought out residual income option.
Those looking for the cheapest and easiest programs on the Internet today, the obvious answer are affiliate marketing opportunities. The programs themselves are simple in execution: assuming that you have a well maintained blog that is user friendly, search engine friendly, filled with interesting content, and also sticky in its ability to have repeat visitor traffic, then you will have a running start by simply signing up for a an affiliate marketing program that complements the content of your blog and – once accepted – place a link onto your blog.

The goal is to entice your blog’s visitors to click the link and then visit the merchant with whom you signed up. If the blog visitor makes a purchase, you will receive a small percentage of the sale total. If you have a well run blog, you will have a lot of blog traffic and the odds of sending a large number of potential customers to the merchant’s site will translate into a heightened opportunity of making some serious online money by virtue of the potential sales the merchant stands to make just off of your link.
Since links may be graphic links, text links, or even search box links, they are bound to fit into the overall design of your blog and do present a seemingly seamless integration. If you sign up with a number of merchants whose products are germane to the web content you feature, you have the opportunity to maximize your income potential with the affiliate option.
One of the most commonly made mistakes is that of the creation of a blog for the sole purpose of making it into a dollar mill by placing affiliate links on it. Search engines have gotten wise to these blogs and have begun to rank them rather low, thus making them next to impossible for the web surfers to find. In the same vein, those who do have sites with great content sometimes go overboard by placing too many links onto a blog.
One or two may be fine, yet if the links are starting to overwhelm the content and the message is getting lost, you will find that you will lose a lot of the visitor interest. Remember that your blog’s visitors are taking a peek at the link you are providing because they trust you, but if you do nothing but try to hawk a plethora of products, this trust flies out the window and you will notice not only a sharp decline in your online visitors, but also a decrease in the click through rate.
Focus on your blog’s message first and then on your affiliate links and you will find that a complementary approach will perhaps be the most profitiable one. In addition to the foregoing, monitor your click through rates and ensure that the company to which the affiliate links are leading remains reputable and dedicated to customer service.

Good post, I think with blogs the content should ALWAYS come first and be the focal point and this is why blogs take so much more work and dedication.
Thanks Ben!

Nice article. Affiliate marketing is indeed one of the best way to start online marketing. And at the end of the day, you should optimize your income by building a system. Not only relying on affiliate links in your blog. A system that will help other people to build their business, and at the same leverage your own affiliate business.
For instance, if you are into Plugin Profit (I’m not in it), you might consider to write a free guide on how to make profit from plugin profit. This report should be provided for free, as well as encouraging your readers to share it too. You can generate more passsive income by:
a) Providing your affiliate links in the reports, which is supposed to be used as a tool in the guide.
b) Promote another free report where readers need to subscribe to your opt-in list.

I’m not sure how acheivebale residual income is in the long term, for the simple earson that as a site owner you have to continually invest time in promoting your site, or risk your SERPS rankings taking a hit. In my mind residual income is all about investing time and energy upfront and then doing nothing else, but most residual income programme don’t actually work in this way

While I believe calling it residual income is a bit of a stretch (you do have to put in a hefty initial workload and some maintenance), it’s true that you can make a very nice income with affiliate programs. Although, it’s great that you point out that you must never lose track of the blog’s primary intention, which has to be providing good and relevant content.
