There is a very easy way to add a “Tweet This” link to your WordPress blog posts. It involves no plugins. For those of you who don’t know, a “Tweet This” link gives your readers the option of easily posting a link to your post to their Twitter account stream. That’s a good thing because all of their Twitter followers will then be introduce to you and your writing. Basically, a “Twit This” link equals more traffic and readers for you and your blog. You can see mine below this post.
To post a “Tweet This” link on your own blog, simply copy and paste the following code inside the WordPress loop found in the single.php file of your current theme. Or, if you’d like to have it where mine is, you can post it in the MainTemplate.php.
<a target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow” href=”http://twitter.com/home?status=Currently reading <?php the_permalink(); ?>” title=”Click to send this page to Twitter!” target=”_blank”><b>Tweet This!</b></a></span>
That’s all there is to it, really. Simply copy and paste the above in your loop.
Good Luck!

My exact same thought. It is a clever idea to have people spend more time on your page to have them look for something that isn’t there

The link is only on the main page peiprofit.com under the article with Digg This and Stumble It. I should probably put it on these pages too.
Yes, it could be used in a widget. It doesn’t matter where you place it because it is just a link.

I kind of like using the plugin that has a button with each post that allows people to ReTweet the post if they see fit. You can see an example on my blog.

That’s a pretty cool alternative to a plugin. It doesn’t show the number of tweets but I’m using a plugin that doesn’t seem to cooperate on my front page anyway.

Thanks for this – just having an active presence on Twitter is amazingly effective at bringing traffic to a site that doesn’t get too much. I had a blog a while back which saw nearly 90% of all it’s traffic through Twitter!

Thanks for the code. As twitter grows in popularity you can’t ignore it. Even if you don’t want to get a twitter account, it makes sense to at least allow your visitors to easily spread the word about your blog or website.

I actually just added the ability to tweet or retweet my posts today on my blog. While I didn’t go the route of the code (I used the TweetMeme button you may have seen on a few sites), your example makes it much easier and faster to implement on a blog than a plugin.
